How does therapy help children and teens with trauma, divorce, conflict, and abuse

For Children, Adolescents and their Families

I work with toddlers, children, teens and their families that are struggling to understand and communicate with one another. I use age appropriate, creative and expressive methods to give every kid an outlet to process feelings, fears, hopes and dreams. As a result, they have greater self-understanding and feel more securely adjusted at home, at school and with their peers.

Emotional & Psychological Support

Psychotherapy helps children and adolescents in a variety of ways. They receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and difficulties, and try out new solutions to old problems. Stressors such as trauma, divorce, conflict, and abuse can make kids confused about their feeling and uncertain about their future. They can act meanly or aggressively because they can not control their actions and cannot find other ways to express their feelings: they might not be able to learn in school because there are preoccupied with thoughts or feelings or they might feel restless or cannot concentrate because they have not able to find better ways to maintain confidence and calmness.

Addressing Complex Problems

Therapy address the complex emotional life of children and adolescents, deals with underlying causes of problems and assists children and adolescents to create a strong psychological basis for ongoing development. The foundation of therapy is the relationship with the therapist. The goal is to create a situation in which young people can express themselves fully in order to increase self-understanding and promote new and lasting changes in emotional states and behavior; a sense of security and connection with the therapist is the most important element towards making lasting change. Psychotherapy is not a quick fix or an easy answer. It is a complex and rich process that, over time, can reduce symptoms, provide insight, and improve a child or adolescent's functioning and quality of life.. Goals for therapy may be specific (change in behavior, improved relations with friends or family), or more general (less anxiety, better self-esteem). The length of psychotherapy depends on the complexity and severity of the problems
